The practice of the four causes for rebirth in Sukhāvatī, for those who wish to be reborn in Sukhāvatī [the Pure Land of Amitābha Buddha], is as follows.

Focus one-pointedly on Buddha Amitābha; and every day, recite his name seven times. Then, recite the following:

འདྲེན་པ་འོད་དཔག་མེད་པ་དགོངས་སུ་གསོལ།

DREN-PA Ö-PAK-MEY-PA GONG SU SÖL

O guide Amitābha, please consider me.

GYEL-WA KHYEY KYI T’UK-KYEY CHI ZHIN-DU

Victorious One, in accordance with your generation of Awakening Mind1,

LA-MEY JANG-CH’UP-CH’OK-TU-SEM KYEY DÉ

I give rise to the Foremost Mind, that set upon Unsurpassed Awakening2;

GÉ-WA TSA-WA JI-NYEY GYIY-PA NAM

And whatever roots of virtue I have performed,

NUP-CH’OK DÉ-WA-CHEN GYI ZHING-KHAM SU

So that I may be born in the Pure Land of Sukhāvatī in the western direction,

GYEL-CH’OK KHYEY KYI DRUNG DU KYEY NAY KYANG

In your presence, Supreme Conqueror,

LAP-CH’EN GYEL-WA’Y S’AY KYI CHÖ-PA KÜN

I dedicate all those practices of the Victorious One’s Heirs, great altruistic deeds,

YONG-SU DZOK-PA’Y LAY-DU NGO GYIY NA

For the sake of their complete fulfillment;

TS’É DI P’Ö MA-T’AK-TU DAK-PA’Y ZHING

And thereby, as soon as I move on from this life, in the Land of Purity,

DÉ-WA-CHEN DU DZÜ TÉ KYÉ-WA DANG

That of Sukhāvatī, may I emanate and be reborn,

DREN-PA Ö-PAK-MEY KYIY LUNG-TEN NAY

Receive a prediction of enlightenment from the guide, Amitābha;

DZOK-MÖN JANG-WA T’A-RU-CH’IN-PAR SHOK

And there bring my training in perfect aspirations to culmination.

SANG-GYAY Ö-PAK-MEY LA SÖL-WA-DEP

I pray to the Buddha Amitābha.

DAK GIY LA-MEY JANG-CH’UP-SEM KYEY NAY

I generate the Mind of Unsurpassed Awakening3,

GÉ-TSA T’A-DAK DÉ-CH’EN ZHING CH’OK TU

And all roots of virtue, in their entirety, I dedicate toward rebirth in the Supreme Land of Great Bliss:

།སྐྱེ་ཕྱིར་བསྔོ་ན་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས།

KYÉ CH’IR NGO NA DRUP-PAR JIN-GYIY-LOP

Please bless me to accomplish this.

[2]  The Eight treasures of confidence (Wyl. spobs pa’i gter brgyad) are eight qualities mentioned in the Lalitavistara Sutra and frequently referred to in the writings of Mipham Rinpoche. They are:

  1. treasure of recollection
  2. treasure of intelligence
  3. treasure of realization
  4. treasure of retention
  5. treasure of confidence
  6. treasure of Dharma
  7. treasure of bodhichitta
  8. treasure of accomplishment

Commentary

From Mipham Rinpoche‘s Sword of Wisdom:

Scriptures heard and contemplated in the past
Are never forgotten—this is the treasure of recollection.
Knowing precisely their profound and vast points—
This is the treasure of intelligence. (94)
Understanding all the themes of the sutra and tantra collections—
This is the treasure of realization.
Never forgetting any detail from one’s studies—
This is the treasure of retention. (95)
Satisfying all beings with excellent explanations—
This is the treasure of confidence.
Safeguarding the precious treasury of sacred teachings—
This is the treasure of Dharma. (96)
Not severing the continuous line of the Three Jewels—
This is the treasure of bodhichitta.
Gaining acceptance of the nature of equality beyond arising—
This is the treasure of accomplishment. (97)

The Melody of Deathless Accomplishment: A Prayer for the Exalted Feet of the Gurus to Remain Firm

by Jamgon Ju Mipham Rinpoche

HRIH: NANG SRID NAM DAG LHA YI KYIL KHOR DU

HRIH: In the mandala of the deity of utterly pure appearances and possibilities,

GO SUM DOR JE MIN CHING DROEL DZAY PAY

is the one who ripens the three doors into vajra, and activates liberation,

RIG KUEN KHYAB DAG GYUE KYI TOEN PA PO

the lord pervading all buddha-families, the teacher of the lineage:

DOR JE GYAL POR TAG TU ZHAB TEN SOL

Vajra King, I constantly pray that your exalted feet remain firm.

DOR JEY LUE LA ZHOM MEY SANG SUM GYI

You are one who vividly issues forth from your vajra body

DE CHHEN KYIL KHOR NGOEN DU JIN PA PO

the mandala of the great bliss of your invincible three secrets.

DOR JE LUNG GI DAG PO CHHE WAY CHHOG

Lord of Vajra Inner Wind, you are the supreme amongst supreme:

DOR JE LOB POEN KAL GYAR SHAB TEN SOL

Vajra Master, I pray that your exalted feet remain firm for a hundred aeons.

RANG RIG GYUR MEY DE CHHEN PO’I YING

Your own natural awareness is the basic space of unchanging supreme bliss.

TSOL MEY LAM NAY NGOEN SUM SEL DZAY PAY

From the path of non-contrivance, you enact the clarifying of direct perception,

DZOG PAY MAN NGAG ZAB MO NYER DZIN PAY

and you hold fast to the profound pith instructions of completeness:

PAL DEN LA MA SRI THAR ZHAB TEN SOL

Resplendent Guru, who brought conditioned existence to finality, I pray that your exalted feet remain firm.

GYUE SUM LA MAY ZHAL KYIN RIN PO CHHE

Precious Regent of the Gurus of the Three Lineages,

DUE SUM TAG PAR DOR JEY KUR ZHENG NAY

through your arising from the Vajrakaya, perpetual throughout the Three Times,

GYUE SUM CHHOE KYI GYAL TS’HEN CHEN PO GANG

may the great victory banner of the Dharma of the Three Lineages

SA SUM KHYAB PAR TAG TU DRENG GYUR CHIG

wave eternally, pervading the Three Planes!

Thus, in the Earth Mouse year, on the fifth day of the third month, Jampel Gyeypay Dorje (Mipham Rinpoche), in the manner of writing down whatever arises, composed this. Through this, for the Holders of the Teachings, who are suffused with benefit, by means of merely praying with these words, may the dependent arising for their lotus feet to remain
firm for an ocean of aeons arise, and may bountiful virtue and goodness increase!
